[FLASHBACK] Kazue's Story (Sharingan Unlock/Training)

A young, seven year old Kazue was having the time of her life. Her big brother had allowed her to accompany him on a mission just outside the village walls. He was in his stages as a Special Jounin and was undertaking a simple patrol mission. He wanted to take his sister along to give her the experience of what a real mission was like. Kazue was still in her second academy year, but had already learned to utilize her chakra for assistance in jumping and enhancing her muscles and reflexes. Though she wasn’t as quick as her brother and she fell every now and again, she was able to follow behind him slowly.

She was working on learning the tree walking technique. She had it down good enough to climb a tree but not stop on the side or upside down. As they travelled through the forest of giant trees around the village, she took every chance to test her technique. Her brother of course, when he wasn’t checking out the forest for anything out of the ordinary, he would give her tips and help her to improve her form.

It had been a few hours and they had stopped to rest for a bit. Well, Kazuto was resting, Kazue was still practicing. She most definitely had her father’s vigor when it came to training. As she was finally beginning to get the hang of standing upside down and throwing kunai and shuriken into a target her brother had carved on a tree, she still had a bit of work to do yet. She was one of the best kunai throwers in her class at the academy and it didn’t take her long to become proficient with shuriken or senbon either.

It was when her brother thought he heard a sound that he told her to climb the tree and stay put while he checks it out that the real trouble started this day. She climbed the tree and pouted as her brother took off into the forest to see what the noise he had heard was. Now, Kazue wasn’t the most patient child at this point, so she decided to follow after her brother and see what he was chasing. As she ran through the forest, following the sound she thought was her brother, she found herself suddenly in front of a large cliff face, in front of a small, frightened rabbit.

Turning around, she would dash back into the forest. The last thing she wanted today was for her brother to scold her for not following his instructions. After a few minutes of running, she realized that she was most definitely lost. Deciding to keep searching, she would continue to wander through the forest in search of her brother or their rest spot. After around an hour, she was beginning to feel tired, so Kazue leaned back against a tree. Panting slightly, she would take a sip of water from her pouch that she brought with her. She was about to take another sip, when suddenly she heard a low growl from the bushes across from her. Out came three large wolves with Konoha headbands wrapped around their necks. The headbands were all slashed through the leaf symbol.

Gasping, Kazue would turn and run as fast as she could, pumping a steady stream of chakra through her legs. She was definitely going faster than she had ever run, but the wolves were keeping good pace. She knew she couldn’t stop running or they would definitely catch her. Deciding to take some form of action, she would jump high in the air, spinning and letting loose a flurry of shuriken behind her. Not knowing if her blind attack had worked, she kept running through the trees.

Suddenly, she was face first into the same cliff she had found earlier. Now facing a dead end she turned slowly as the growling and barking caught up to her. Looking at the wolves, all dark grey in color with yellow eyes, she noticed one had a shuriken in its shoulder. Mustering up her best game face and pulling out a kunai in each hand, she would get into the academy stance. The first wolf lunged and she managed to dodge to the right, but the second wolf managed to bite her arm. Screaming in pain, she used the momentary boost in adrenalin to stab the wolf in the neck with one of her Kunai. Now an arm and a Kunai down, Kazue’s chances were looking slim. The wolves were also looking much better off than she was, even the ones she had wounded.

Focusing her chakra to aid in the moving of her arm, she grunted as she pulled out another kunai to replace the one now lodged in the wolf’s neck. She was about to lash out again when she heard a dark chuckle coming from the forest. Out stepped a very seedy looking man with greasy, slicked back, black hair. He was slightly overweight but the axe he carried showed that he wasn’t lacking in strength either. He eyed her as hungrily as the wolves that now surrounded her.

The man spoke with a voice that made Kazue have to bite back vomit that worked its way up in her throat, “You wounded one of my dogs little lady, that wasn’t very nice. What are you doing out here in the woods all alone? Do you need someone to keep you company?” He finished speaking with a lecherous grin spread across his face. He began to advance towards her, lifting the axe as he did before swinging it vertically, aiming to take off or incapacitate one of her arms. She managed to dodge to the side and throw one of her kunai at his back. It stuck into his armored vest, but seemed to do little damage to him. “Leave me alone creep! I’m a ninja!” She said in her best attempt at being intimidating.

The man laughed hard and removed the kunai from his back. “You? A ninja? Don’t make me laugh kid. Now come here and we can have some fun before I gut you like swine!” He rushed forwards again, now aiming blind slashes at her torso. She did her best to dodge most of the swings but one or two nicked her on her shoulder and across her back. She was now bleeding a little, her white clothing getting soaked with blood. She knew she had to think of something or this would be the end for her.

It was at this moment that she realized she had used all of her shuriken in her attempt to lose the wolves when they were chasing her and her last kunai was being gripped in her right hand. All she had left were a few senbon and her only jutsu was the fireball jutsu. But she had only just began to learn it, so there’s no way she could risk that technique now. When she heard one of the wolves lunge, she sidestepped and stabbed hard and fast right between its ribs. It whimpered and fought a moment before falling limp on the ground. That only seemed to anger the man more as he sent the other two wolves after her. One still had a kunai in its neck and the other had a shuriken in its shoulder. Using a burst of chakra, she jumped and landed her foot down on the kunai, killing the first wolf instantly. The second wolf was slow due to the shuriken, so she simply attacked it as fast as she could, stabbing the kunai in its head and twisting it.

She was so caught up in the heat of battling the wolves, she had forgotten about the man. He reminded her of his presence by hitting her hard with the handle of his axe, sending her careening into a tree hard enough to knock her breath out. He approached her slowly, she was too tired to stop him, in her mind she thought this was the end.

Suddenly, as his axe was poised to end her life, the world seemed to slow to a halt and her senses seemed like they were running on high. She could see the beads of sweat and dried blood on his face and the way his muscles were tensing and contracting. She knew exactly where his axe was going to hit and she knew exactly where to move to dodge it. She rolled to the left, narrowly avoiding the axe. Whipping out a senbon she jammed it into his Achilles tendon. This cause him to yell out in pain as he fell backwards. She pulled out a second senbon, stabbing it into his femoral artery, his blood splattered everywhere from the force. She wasn’t done yet. The man was now lying back, leaning on the trunk of the tree, his eyes full of fear. “What the hell are you, red eyed demon?” He said in a voice that was shaking.

Kazue was in full survival mode at the moment and began to do hand signs from memory. Once she finished, she kneaded the chakra into her stomach and took a big breath before releasing a ball of flames roughly a meter in diameter. The feeling of the hot chakra flowing through her throat brought her back to reality as she noticed she was burning a man alive. Cancelling her technique, she fell to the ground completely exhausted. She heard a noise and saw her brother approaching her swiftly, a worried look plastered on his face.

“Kazue, what happened?!” She could hear him ask hurriedly, his eyes studying her single tomoe Sharingan with a mix of worry and shock. Kazue simply said, “I got lost.” Before her Sharingan faded to black and her eyes rolled to the back of her head. Kazuto managed to catch her and bring her safely back to the village where he dropped her off at the hospital and made sure she was getting treated before rushing to the Hokage tower. He had a lot of explaining to do and he was not looking forward to facing his father about not only losing his sister in the forest but almost getting her killed. And not even to mention the fact that it was due to this that she got her first kill.

It took around two days for Kazue to wake up. During this time, her vitals and all that were at healthy levels, she was just adjusting to not only using so much chakra at once, but also her body getting used to her now opened chakra coils in her eyes. It was during the second day that her body shifted and she sat up. It took a moment for her onyx eyes to adjust and take in her surroundings, but once she realized she was in a hospital room she grew slightly confused. That’s when she noticed the other occupants in the room. One was her brother, sitting next to her bed, asleep. Clearly exhausted from being by her side for two days straight. The other, was a white haired man in a black trench coat with a Konoha headband wrapped around his eyes. “Daddy?” Kazue would say weakly.

Upon hearing her voice, Kazuto would pen his eyes and sit up. His right eye was bruised and he had a slight cut on his lip that was healing. “It is good to see you are okay, nee-chan.” He would say. “What happened to your face Kazuto-nii?" Kazue would ask innocently. Kosuke would speak up, his once smooth baritone having become a little more gruff in his age, “His irresponsibility nearly cost you your life and exposed you to trauma you shouldn’t have seen for at least another five years. He has been punished for his stupidity. Now, please do me a favor and focus chakra to your eyes.” She would do as she was told, knowing that if she didn’t, regardless of his lack of sight, her father would know and she would be punished.

Kosuke made a humming sound before nodding, “From this day forward, your training will increase tenfold. In the mornings, I will begin teaching you the Uchiha Interceptor style and some advanced chakra control exercises and when you get home from the academy, your brother will be covering your weapons and jutsu training.” Looking to her brother, who was smiling, she grinned as big as she could muster and threw a thumbs up to her dad, “You got it dad! I’ll give it my all!” Kosuke merely chuckled and stood to walk out the door. He rubbed her head in a playful manner as he passed by and left the room.

From that day until her brother’s untimely death, she put everything she had into her training. In the months that followed, she grew exponentially, and even after she finished mourning her brother, she threw herself into her training even further. It became a coping mechanism, go to the academy, come home, train until you pass out, wake up, and repeat. It didn’t slow down any even after she became a Genin. In fact, now that she could not only take on missions, but she had access to the clan and shinobi libraries, she threw herself into training even more. She learned many styles and ways to kill or survive various things. She learned more of the clan jutsu and even some other jutsu as well. She learned the history of the village and some global history as well.

It wasn’t until she and her team decided they would take on the next coming chuunin exams did she go to her father for extra help in training. It became clear that if she wanted to progress her ninja career, she would need to master the power granted to her by her blood. She stood in the private Uchiha training ground, looking around it was an underground cave with a dirt floor and a person sized hole in one of the walls. She wasn’t sure about that, but she looked at her father, standing across from her so calm, she would get into a fighting stance, her Sharingan blazing to life with a single tomoe swirling around the pupil.

[A few weeks later]

Looking across the training field at her father she would think of how her training had progressed in the last few weeks. She had learned a lot more about her newly awakened Sharingan and even learned a few jutsu. Secondly, he had begun to show her the basics of sensing nature chakra for when he eventually will show her how to become a sage. Today marked one month before her team was slated to enter the chuunin exams and she needed to continue her training. Waiting for him to begin their sparring match she would mentally prepare herself, activating her Sharingan. He slowly raised his hand into the air before dropping it swiftly shouting, “Hajime!” She dashed forwards throwing a right handed punch directly towards his face. He sidestepped her and delivered a roundhouse to her back sending her to the ground. But she wasn’t done yet, she performed a handspring and got right back up.

Flying through Handseals that she had mastered to the point that she could do them in her sleep, she fired a two meter wide fireball directly at her father. He didn’t appear to move until the explosion happened and suddenly he was standing next to her. The only way you could tell he was even near the explosion was the fact he was smoking slightly.

Whipping out two kunai, she would Tie a chakra string to them and bind an extra string in the center. While she was doing this however, her father had made a shadow clone that was coming at her at slightly faster than she could keep up with. She would throw the kunai towards the clone with a wide spread and the moment the two passed and he touched the rope connecting them, she would yank the part she still held wrapping the clone in the chakra thread tightly. Running through handsigns quickly she would breathe a steady stream of fire down the string igniting the clone in a ball of fire that made her Fireball jutsu look like child’s play.

Her father wasted no time in preparing a counter measure though as he threw a handful of kunai at her, followed by two hand seals. Suddenly, those few kunai multiplied into at least two hundred, if not more. Deciding she needed to do something fast, she focused her wind chakra to her finger tips and released a flurry of wind blades. This technique was currently her most powerful technique in her arsenal and it was self-taught meaning her father wouldn’t know to expect this attack.

Her wind blades managed to deflect most of his kunai and she was able to easily dodge the rest of them. Forming quick hand seals she would breathe out a massive cloud of smoke. While it clearly wouldn’t make her father anymore blind, it would eliminate his exits. With a snap of her fingers, the smoke would ignite into a huge explosion. When she next found her father, he was standing on the ceiling, his clothing burned and torn in a few places, but physically he appeared to be fine. He would begin to speak to her, “Kazue, you cannot simply hope to overwhelm a superior opponent with high powered jutsu. You must work to overwhelm them by being ahead of their train of thought. You must account for their whereabouts and plan ahead for any possible scenarios. It is only then that you will be able to defeat someone stronger than you. Now, come at me.” He would do the classic bring it on gesture and she would give him what he wanted. Dashing forwards at a great speed, she would throw a barrage of punches, but when he dodged or blocked all of them, she would form a handsign and blow out a blast of fire right into his face. It had the desired effect of sending him careening to the ground from his position on the ceiling.

Of course, she wasn’t expecting him to form a handseal and then phase right into the ground like it was water. A moment later she felt something pulling her down and in the blink of an eye she was buried neck deep in the ceiling. Kosuke was standing over her with a slight smirk, “I think that’s enough for one day. You have made good progress in the last few weeks and as such, I will allow you to begin taking missions in your spare time to build up experience you’ll need in the exams. You are dismissed.” With that, he was gone. As though he was never there to begin with. She was very tired from the session so she decided to head home.

As she sat in her room that night, she practiced her sensing of nature chakra. When suddenly something strange happened, her arms began to feel stiff. Opening her eyes they had slowly started to take on a grey tone, like that of a rock. Quickly releasing any nature energy she had she decided that it was probably in her best interest to call it quits for the night and begin planning what missions she would be able to take in her time off from the team in the next weeks leading up to the exams.

It had been a week since her last training with her father and she had been taking on several missions in her off time. She had currently completed close to 17 D-ranked missions and still had time for double that amount at her current rate. She was currently chasing down a common thief that had been using the lack of real security in the marketplace to make off with several valuable items. It was her job to capture him and turn him in. It had taken her a few different tries to find the kid, but after several failed traps, she had him. He slinked towards her purse as she downed another stick of pocky.

Feeling it being lifted, she snapped around so fast the boy didn’t even have time to react before he was unconscious. It might have been her fastest capture to date. She honestly didn’t know if she knocked him out or if he fainted from shock. Either way, her job here was complete and she was off to her next mission in her list for the day.

Arriving at the home of a wealthy business man, Kazue knocked on the door. “Hello, you needed help finding your pet cat?” It took a few moments but their butler came to the door and handed her a picture of the black cat with one blue eye. His other eye was missing and he appeared to have a bite mark out of his right ear and he only seemed to have half of a tail. Apparently his name was “Lucky” and she was supposed to find out where he had gone. She took a moment and activated her Sharingan to memorize the picture before looking around the house and then the neighborhood to find any clues as to where he had gone.

She found two clues in total before she decided to follow the lead she got from them. One was a collar stuck to a fence that seemed to have been broken off when the owner of said collar was coming to visit lucky. The other was a food bag that had obviously been ripped open by a wild animal. He followed the trail from the food bag first. Using her Sharingan, following the trail of food bits and ripped bag was child’s play.

Finally, she found the end of the trail. It was a massive, hollowed out oak tree a few blocks away at the edge of a training field. Forming handsigns, she would launch three blades of wind, breaking the tree down into thirds. Out scrambled around five raccoons running for their lives with mouthfuls of cat food. Deciding to follow up the next lead due to the fact that this one was obviously a dead end, she made her way across the village to the address that was on the back of the collar she had found. Once there she could hear the clear mewing of a cat. Deciding that it was definitely worth checking out she headed behind the house.

There on a pouch of wool laid Lucky, and another, female cat. Surrounded by a litter of kittens. It was clear that this is where he had disappeared off to and so she plucked him up and carried him back to his owners. Letting them know about his new paternal status, she would then leave their house to head to the archives where her final mission was for the day. She had to sort through many documents of the village to help to organize and categorize their archives.

She had been working for a few hours now, her red eyes blazing out in the dark room. The only sounds that had come from the room since she got there were shifting papers and closing file cabinet drawers. She had been using her Sharingan to read the pages quickly and with the most attention to detail that she could I order to speed along the organizing process. Upon finishing this she was to report to her teams training ground to do their daily training regimen to prepare for the exams. Sliding the final paper into its place, she would slide her chair back, stretch and make her way quickly to turn in her completed missions for the day and get her pay. After she finished this, she would head to training ground 43 to train with her team.

She arrived to find her team waiting on her. Her first teammate was a boy named Rishi Kagome. He was not a member of any clans, but he had a tactical mind that could rival that of a Nara. Kazue didn’t get along with him very much due to his overly confident attitude. Her next teammate was the worst of them all. Riis Hyuuga. The one girl who annoyed her the most out of her entire graduating class. She was arrogant, but usually could back up that arrogance with pure luck and talent. She took every opportunity she had to try and look better than both of her teammates. This often led to their sensei, Shiro Namikaze, making them all do punishment exercises.

As soon as she arrived, the three of them began to do their usual training warm ups. Consisting of fifty sit ups and pushups and then running thirty laps around an obstacle course that Shiro had set up a few weeks ago. It was pretty intense as one wrong move could leave you seriously injured or even dead. It took them several days to get even a little accustomed to doing a single lap, as it required either someone insanely skilled, or a well-oiled team to slip through his barrage of obstacles.

It was during this run through the course of doom, that Kazue would see everything a bit clearer, even WITH her Sharingan active. And the shuriken and Kunai that were launched at them moved a little slower. She could tell where they were going to be before they got there. She realized that she had unlocked the next level of her Sharingan at some point that day. From then on, she found it significantly easier to get through the course, even finishing it before both of her teammates. After this, they were told to spar with one another in order to learn to spot strengths and weaknesses. Her first opponent was Riis. Oh this was just too perfect. Activating her Sharingan, Kazue got into her stance and watched as Riis got into her own. Kazue would then shift her stance to mirror that of her opponent.

Riis noticed this and grew angry. She blind charged Kazue throwing punch after punch and kick after kick. Kazue was able to block or dodge all of them until she saw an opportunity and delivered a devastating uppercut into the girls chin. This actually managed to knock her out cold with a single punch. She was always a little bit more of a jerk after that defeat. Her next opponent was Rishi. He might be a little more difficult to anger into blindly attacking though.

Rishi got into a simple stance that was very much for a defensive and reactive fighter. He was well guarded, but his stance was clearly not suited to attack quickly, but more to defend or redirect attacks.  Kazue decided to go for a simple frontal assault with shuriken. It was easy for him to dodge, but it drew his attention away from her long enough that she was able to close the distance between them. Her first two punches and kick were blocked fairly easily, but when she threw a feint she managed to get a hit in. It was definitely going to be a long match at this rate.

She threw numerous punches and kicks, some doing damage, others being wasted energy. Finally, she backed off to regroup and formulate a different strategy. If only she had taken the time to learn the Shadow clone jutsu her father used in their training. But that would make things too easy now wouldn’t it. Looking back to her opponent, she saw him forming handsigns. This was not going to be fun.

He formed the final seal and the area became clouded with a thick mist. She hated it when he used this technique as even when she had her Sharingan active, she couldn’t see him. Deciding she had enough of this, she formed her own handseals breathing out a cloud of ash. It counteracted with his mist making it into a grey fog that neither of them could see through, but she was never intent on seeing through it. Snapping her fingers to create a spark, there was a dull explosion, weakened by the water in the mist, but enough to singe the boys hair some as he came stumbling out of the smoke. Rushing forwards and delivering a punch to his face, he would collapse unconscious.

Leaning down panting, Kazue would look to her sensei who looked both proud yet disapproving at the same time if that is even possible. He told her that while he is proud she has made such strides in her training, she shouldn’t rush into battles so half-cocked. He did say that her final improvised plan in the final match was very clever and could be a handy thing to remember in the exams.

After their training for the day, Kazue returned to her house to rest for her busy day of missions. The following day, Kazue had already completed a handful of missions early in the morning like pruning someone’s lawn and picking up groceries. She also did some random chores for this old man who was so grouchy she actually had to fight the urge to punch him in the face. But, this day would be paying off as her father had agreed to teach her another jutsu in the afternoon and she couldn’t wait. She quickly ran along to the next mission on her list.

Her current task was painting a fence. She got it done rather quickly, until the old woman who hired her decided that fuchsia wasn’t the color she wanted and that she really wanted puce. It was a strange task, but after painting it and then repainting it, the woman finally settled on lime green and that’s when Kazue made her exit before the lady changed her mind again.

After completing her final task of the day she ran as fast as she could back to her house in the Uchiha compound and into the hidden training field below. There she waited patiently for her father to come walking into the training field. He would immediately begin to tell her about the technique she would be learning as he was not one to beat around the bush, “Today, you will be learning the Fire Release: Great Fire Destruction technique. It is an ancient technique passed along in the Uchiha family as it has been for years. Just like it was taught to me by my father, I shall teach it to you. Now, activate your Sharingan and watch closely.”

He would then breathe in a large amount of air, forming a few handsigns before breathing out a massive stream of fire that was so hot Kazue could feel it from where she was standing across the room. It burned the ground, leaving the dusty training room floor scorched with a black mark where the fire went above it. All in all, with her Sharingan active, she saw everything.

She saw the way that the chakra gathered in his throat interacted with the air he drew in and when he started to exhale when the spark originated and how the ebb and flow of his chakra to push out the massive wave of flames reminded her of both the tides and a heartbeat. It was surely an amazing sight to take in as it wasn’t every day that you watch an S-rank technique and just understand its inner workings as she was right now. Now this wasn’t to say that she would be perfect at the technique her first try, no, it would take her the next two weeks to get it to an adequate level for use.

She spent the next week before her chuunin exams in hard training. It wasn’t until the evening before the exams that she allowed herself to rest and mentally prepare for the difficulty to come. Her father and her sensei had trained her well and she at least counted on her teammates to not do anything to cause themselves to fail, so she didn’t need to worry about that.
