It's a Bird! It's a Plane! It's a Flying Thunder God! (P, training)

Roku sat at the table of a rather small restaurant, where the atmosphere was small and quiet, except for a group of rowdy old men sitting in a corner booth. Roku tried to ignore them all, but they simply got louder and louder. By the sounds of it, they were old retired Konohagakure Ninja veterans, and they were arguing over who, supposedly, were the best ninja of all time, and what the jutsu of all time were. Due to his growing irritation, Roku could not help but to eavesdrop, when they got to a particularly juicy point in their conversation. They talked about Fuuinjutsu, one of Roku’s specialties, and Roku couldn’t stop himself from being pulled in, interested in what they all had to say about the jutsu type.

What Roku overheard was enough for him to blatantly stare at the men, though they had yet to notice. "Okay, listen, you can say all you want, but Flying Thunder God is by far the strongest Fuuinjutsu to ever exist.” But that wasn’t what interested Roku.

“How does teleporting have anything at all on being able to seal someone’s soul away forever, no ifs ands or buts about it? The Reaper Death Seal is easily far, far superior to anything that the Flying Thunder God has to offer. You’re crazy if you think otherwise.” One man was obviously smarter than the other, and it was definitely not the man who thought that the superior jutsu was the one who required the user to give their life to seal away, especially when there wasn’t even a guarantee that the jutsu would work. The first man was right.

“There’s no versatility there! A ninja’s ability on the battlefield has everything to do with his versatility! His capability to change, move places, be anywhere and nowhere!”

And Roku smiled. He knew he was right.

Roku had to learn more. Against his better instinct, Roku stood, his clothes falling around him. After stepping away from his chair, old habits were old habits, and he pushed the chair in, taking great care to make sure that it was aligned perfectly before gently releasing it and going to the group of men. His feet made a hollow knocking sound against the wood floors, as if there was nothing beneath. Years of breaking and repairs, Roku thought. He spoke to the man who was advocating for the Flying Thunder God. “You’re right, that is definitely the most important thing for a Ninja on the battlefield. What can you tell me about the technique?”

The man went on to talk about how the jutsu normally required four highly skilled Shinobi to perform the jutsu together in order to really hone in on the target, and how a master of the technique could perform it alone, effortlessly, as if it were second nature. Nothing to him. But apparently, no one could figure out how to do it anymore. There were no tomes that helped, and other than two other people in the world that could do it, no one knew how. And they definitely were not sharing. Roku thanked the man and left the building. He knew what he was doing today.

Roku’s feet padded the road between the shops of Kumogakure as he made his way methodically to the Hokage Mountain. There was a certain place he’d found not long ago that would serve for perfect privacy. He did not want people to see him practicing this technique. It could end up bad. It was early enough that virtually no one was outside, and the sounds of Roku’s hard sandals hitting the stone pavement bounced off of the ground and walls and echoed back at him, as if he were walking down a long carpetless hallway. Roku made his way to what was left of the Hokage Monument, climbing over what was left of the mansion. Not wanting to waste any time, Roku did not put any special challenges on himself like usual, and used both hands and feet to climb. He was atop the cliff in no time. Just past the sightline of the cliff was the large clearing that Bet gave him that scar on…

The idea popped into Roku’s head that he had no idea how he was going to go about doing this. How does one teleport with Fuuinjutsu? It made no sense. Fuuinjutsu was for sealing things, not for teleporting. The only way that Roku could think of to do something like this is sealing space. But how did someone seal space? In theory, if Roku sealed space, he could step through the disparity, teleporting him to the other side of the space he sealed away. But, the speed required to do such a thing was silly. And it would require him to be so insanely fast…

Still, it was the only thing that came to mind when the man considered possibilities. So, he worked on drawing and designing a seal. He would first determine if it was possible to actually seal space, and if it were, how long that space would remain empty for him to step through it before it filled back out. He knew the speed it would require would be heavy, but if anyone in the world could do it, it would be him. Later, if this idea worked, Roku would try to finds to shorten it’s prep time.

Roku drew an elaborate seal over a space on the ground. It was a special chakra infused ink that he used so that the variation in the lengths of blades of grass would not interfere with the calligraphy of the sealing technique. The idea was to seal away the space where the seal was located, sprint through it, and then unseal the space as Roku emerged from the other side, having teleported, because there was no space between him and his destination at the time. He did not know the science behind it, but he was ready to attempt it anyway. Soon, all his preparations were complete.

Roku stepped back a few paces. It was high noon now, as he had spent many hours developing this seal. The sun beat down on his neck and sweat trickled down his collar. Roku was ready to attempt this. Taking off at full speed, Roku performed the required hand seals to work with the seal he had created, but at the last second, a thought occurred to him that caused him to immediately freeze, cancelling the jutsu. If he actually attempted to seal space, he could create a singularity, or even worse, a worm hole.

Roku stood for a moment panting, absolutely still. He was not one who knew much about science, but he should have known that possibly opening a rift in the space and time continuum for the sole purpose of trying to learn to teleport was a really, really bad idea. There was no way that people actually attempted that and thought it was a good idea. And from what it seemed like while the men were talking, people used Flying Thunder God many hundreds of years ago. They would have had no idea what it meant to seal space back then. Even in the modern age, Roku knew nothing about it. There was no way they did.

It was obvious to him now, how a person would teleport with Fuuinjutsu. When someone sealed something, they’d seal it into an alternate dimension, and unseal it at a later date, wherever the seal was. If Roku sealed himself using one seal and simultaneously unsealed himself at another seal, as long as they were both connected to the same sealing dimension, Roku could essentially teleport. In fact, now that Roku thought about it, the jutsu was not complex at all. It would require more focus than any other jutsu Roku had every performed, but it definitely was not complex.

Thinking about it, Roku was sure it wouldn’t even be a very difficult seal to design. He cleaned up the mess he’d made earlier with the other seal by fetching buckets of water from the Hokage Mansion. It was an annoying and tedious job, and he briefly wondered if it would require less of his time to just design a custom Water Release technique. Of course it would be faster. He was Roku Enzoka. He could sometimes design and learn techniques in only about twenty seconds. The thing that made him proud was that he realized that such a thought was not even a full exaggeration. He had come so far in the past months.

Roku got to work on drawing the seal. He knew what it had to do, so drawing it was just as simple to him, in the unique language of Fuuinjutsu, as writing down instructions would be for someone else. Sometimes it looked like Roku spoke some sort of arcane, archaic language that gave him magical abilities that no one else knew. Within a few moments, however, Roku came up with the finished version of the seal that would be required Roku, the new Flying Thunder God.

Roku was ready now to try it. First, he devised the simple part of the jutsu. The idea was to form a jutsu that would allow Roku to place a seal corresponding to the seal dimension of the Thunder God. He toyed with the thought for a moment and then decided it was a good idea. It wouldn’t be much different than almost any other jutsu that allowed someone to do similar things with seal placement, and Roku was sure he could do this almost no problem. Roku placed his palm on the surface of the ground, forming a seal unique to him that would allow him to teleport to it.

Roku walked ten feet away and attempted to perform the Flying Thunder God. He didn’t know what hand seals to try, so he did not try any. Trying to time the sealing and unsealing portions exactly together, Roku initiated the jutsu, but it simply didn’t work and instead just drew a massive amount of chakra from the man. Instead of being teleported, Roku just nearly collapsed, completely surprised and taken aback by the sudden drain of chakra that came with, apparently, performing the jutsu wrong. He would be sure not to make that mistake again.

Roku gave himself a moment to recover to attempt the jutsu again. He stood and cleared his mind. He was good at techniques such as this with clearing his mind, as his countless hours training Sage Mode had taught Roku perfect control over his mind and body. He did not draw in Sage Chakra, as he did not want to create a reliance on himself to require Sage Mode to perform the jutsu. If he could master such a technique, he would use it as a reflexive technique. If he could do the technique effortlessly, like the men said, Roku could use it with each step.

And then he did it. He sealed his body, and at the same time, unsealed it, causing him to teleport to the location of the seal. Roku had teleported. The world spun and he fell. He would definitely have to practice his sense of balance later, but Roku could now teleport. He ran further away and teleported back, running away and teleporting back over and over again until he had no more chakra and no longer got dizzy when he teleported. Soon, he was capable of keeping a mental map where all of his seals were and teleport to any of them, perfectly.
