Maeko Akane Basics

Name : Maeko Akane
Nickname : Child of Sin, The Abandoned One
Age : 15 Years Old
Gender : Female

Maeko Akane Appearance

Height : 5'1" - 155 cm
Weight : 101 lbs - 46 kg
Appearance : Suffering from albinism, Maeko's appearance is predominately characterized by the color white. From her lengthy locks of bleached white hair cascading down from the top of her head, to her flawless alabaster skin, her appearance is almost entirely without shade or hue. Even her pasty white eyelashes and eyebrows maintain this pattern, blending in almost seamlessly with her skin. This often leads people to take a second take after glancing at her, wondering momentarily if she has either. Her blanched hair is unnaturally straight and extends down just past her rear, due to her unwillingness to have it regularly cut. The only part of her hair that doesn't fit this mold would be the short, curved cowlick extending from the center of her scalp upward.

The only exception to her otherwise white physical appearance would be her vibrant, crimson eyes that are slightly larger than those of most people. It offers a decent contrast to the rest of her body, giving them noticeable distinction. Standing at a mere five feet and one inch, and weighing no more than one-hundred and one pounds, Maeko is a petite young girl characterized by small frame and stature alike. At first glance, one might even jump to the conclusion that she is frail and weak, maybe even malnourished, based on her height and weight alone. Her slender frame is covered almost in its entirety by a white, form-fitting, skin-tight suit that begins halfway up her neck and extends down to her wrists and feet. Her toes and heels, however, are left bare due to the fact that she opposes footwear adamantly, insisting that it is both uncomfortable and unnatural to cover one's feet entirely; she prefers to feel the ground directly against her toes and heels.

Her body-suit is entirely white, matching her porcelain skin in shade, and left blank for a variety of purposes. Wishing to focus on sealing techniques, she hopes to use her attire as something similar to a blank canvas on which she can place a variety of seals to aid her in combat. Covering the uppermost portion of her bodysuit is a white plastic brace that covers the entirety of her neck, masking it completely from view. Although it's a fragile material and offers no real protection, she still chooses to wear it as a reminder of the past she's left behind after she had to wear it for quite some time when she was first removed from her parents' care. Whenever she's training with her comrades, she will also don a pair of large, brown mittens that are heavily worn and stitched with thick, white laces. The material is extremely soft and absorbs a fraction of the impact of her punches so that she doesn't accidentally hurt others when sparring with them.

Beneath the body suit, and even along her wrists and hands, are numerous scars left over from the years of abuse she endured. Having been forced to fight her siblings in order to survive, and being subject to a variety of torture techniques, her body looks as if it would be more suiting of a hardened war veteran than a young, teenage girl. Being ashamed of her bodily mutilation, she seldom reveals any portion of it to others. Hence the reason she conceals it all with such enveloping attire. Although it doesn't look quite as bad as it once did, due to years of healing, she feels ashamed of what she had to do in order to live on. For this reason, she tries to avoid seeing the scars herself as to not be reminded that her siblings weren't so fortunate as to make it out alive.

Maeko Akane Personality

Personality : Maeko typically behaves in an aloof manner, generally oblivious to social norms and expectations. She's often on the hyper-active side, always eager to do something fun or thrilling with her abundance of energy. Such an abundance is not unexpected, however, for someone who overindulges in sweets the way she tends to. Her partiality to all things sugary and saccharine, particularly ice cream, has been persistent throughout her life, most likely stemming from her reliance on it as a child to distract from her otherwise tumultuous life. Her childish outlook and demeanor, however, is actually a result of arrested psychological development; this has led Maeko to possess a childishly simplified perception of the world around her. Going hand-in-hand with her underdeveloped psyche, her traumatic childhood has also resulted in a loose concept of right and wrong. She doesn't necessarily understand morality in quite the same regard that most people do. She simply thinks what makes people happy is right and what makes people sad is wrong. When it comes to people she's come to care about in some capacity, she'll do anything if she thinks it would make them happy.

Even if her comrade were to make an off-handed comment about wanting to die, she would happily oblige their desire without a second thought. Part of this is also due to her inability to grasp the value of life, having bore witness to death quite frequently as a young girl. This eventually caused her to regard it as nothing significant. Death is simply another aspect of life to her, an inevitable conclusion to every story. When, or how, that end came about was of no consequence. With that said, she'll readily take a life without hesitation, should the occasion call for it, and displays no sign of fear when her own is threatened. In fact, to the contrary, she takes great pleasure in taking lives. The excitement of combat thrills her, and the sight of spilled blood is something that she finds oddly satisfying. This obsession with death and blood is actually why she decided on becoming a kunoichi to begin with, believing that it would present the ideal place for her to become a part of something bigger and feel as though she belongs.

Despite her emotional instability and warped psychological state, one would be wrong to assume she doesn't possess normal human emotions. She does experience joy, sorrow, anger and even love; however, she often expresses her emotions in unusual ways and struggles most with coping when it comes to negative feelings. If she's hurt by someone close to her, she might become crippled by depression. When she feels slighted or enraged, she will feel an insatiable compulsion to respond violently. Despite this, she always goes above and beyond to protect the physical and emotional well-being of those closest to her. Underneath the chaos that resides within her mind, she can be very empathetic when it comes to people that actually matter to her. She values the opinions of her superiors, however, above all else and seeks validation from them consistently. Even if it might get difficult at times, she'll try to follow orders to the best of her ability. However, if she goes without recognition or reward for doing well, she tends to falter in this regard and become more rebellious in a misguided effort to garner their attention.

When in combat, or unbearable emotional distress, Maeko takes on an entirely different persona. When this happens, she becomes extremely sadistic, emotionally cold and revels in the pain and suffering of others. When in this mindset, she seeks only solitude and will push away those she would otherwise seek the companionship of. While she ordinarily might come off as naive and sweet, in her own way, this persona is more cruel and merciless. This type of behavior initially came about when she was a young child, temporarily disassociating to endure the physical and emotional torment she was forced to undergo at the hands of her parents. Every aspect of her self, when this happens, becomes twisted and warped to the point that she's a completely different person. Even her passion for sweets gives way to a more carnivorous appetite, causing her to yearn for the taste of meat and blood.

Maeko Akane History

Character History : The story of Maeko Akane begins within a small tribe of wandering shinobi found in an outlying island of the Water Country. This island in particular was subject to perilous amounts of snow, meaning that this particular group of albino wanders could bend in relatively well. Although no outsiders knew of this group, or what their intentions were, they would surely be subject to questioning if they were ever discovered by the nearby Hidden Mist Village. With this in mind, they kept to themselves for the time being, wishing only to reveal who they were when the time was right to carry out their sinister plan. Leading this group was none other than the Akane clan, respected for their natural aptitude for combat and potent Kekkei Genkai. The leader of the group, known as Eito, and his wife Akari were expecting their fifth child soon.

For years, the group had believed in the prophecy that the fifth born child of their great leader, Eito, would possess an unmatched version of the clan's Kekkei Genkai. They thought with fervency that such a child would wield that power to overtake the Hidden Mist Village and bring about an age of conquest for the clan, allowing them to overtake all of the great shinobi villages in kind. This was why everyone had come to follow Eito and his family, wishing to be compensated for their loyalties to the clan once this time came. Everything changed, however, when Maeko was born. The abilities that were expected to manifest from a young age never seemed to, and by the time she was 6 years of age, those outside of the clan began to fear that their efforts and dedication had been for naught. All of Maeko's siblings had been born with crimson red eyes and acquired their bloodline abilities early on, yet Maeko appeared to be nothing more than your typical child, with deep brown eyes.

Desperate to regain the confidence of his people, Eito Akane rebuked his daughter as the "child of sin". He insisted that she had been born powerless due to a lack of faith in the clan, and that his followers would need to atone for this transgression by sacrificing their own children. According to him, this was the only way that the prophecy could be fulfilled. Both fearful of Eito's power, and desperate to believe their time and efforts had not been wasted, the followers agreed to this sacrifice. However, the night before the ceremony was to take place, one of the female followers deserted the area with her child in tow. She came to the Hidden Mist Village, warning them of the impending rebellion and requesting asylum. It was granted, and hunter ninja were dispatched to deal with the threat immediately. That night, near the entirety of the clan, as well as their followers, were slaughtered as they slept.

All except for the children of Eito, that is. Wishing to take advantage of the clan's power and use it for the benefit of the village, his children were brought back safely to the village and placed in the custody of the follower who had turned in their clan. The woman who was charged with raising Eito's offspring was none other than Fumiko Kana, whose clan was eradicated by the Akane before she was coerced to join the group. She had been wishing to flee, but feared doing so, until the life of her own daughter was threatened. Unbeknownst to the village, this left her with bitter feelings of resentment towards Eito's offspring. She neglected their basic care and needs, instead using them as test subjects for a variety of medical experiments. Maeko and her siblings were consistently pitted against each other in a series of sick games, day after day, in order to determine who would receive basic necessities such as food and water. The losers, however, were tortured and experimented on.

Most days, Maeko would surprisingly come out on top in these 'games', despite lacking the Kekkei Genkai that her brothers and sisters possessed. However, there were many times that she would intentionally lose just so they could receive the food and water that they needed to survive. Quickly realizing that Maeko was the most skilled of her siblings, and taking notice of her benevolence, Fumiko began to extract the doujutsu from Maeko's siblings, before concentrating their power into a single pair of eyes. Each sibling died during this process, lacking the health or will to withstand the process. Once the eyes were perfected, Fumiko strapped Maeko down and underwent the process of transplanting them into her sockets, replacing her previous eyes. Maeko failed to fully take to the new eyes, however, resulting in no change to her abilities. The only difference now being that her eyes were crimson red and she no longer felt the need to blink.

The next day, hunter ninja stormed the home after repeated attempts to get in touch with Fumiko regarding the enrollment of the children into the ninja academy. When they ventured deeper into the home, they found that the caregiver laid slumped over on her bedroom floor, having disemboweled herself in an act of sepuku. She believed that her experimentation would have been justified by a power that surpassed all previous Akane clan members, but when she discovered that she had failed, and all of her sins had been for nothing, she became consumed by shame and guilt. The hunter ninja evacuated her daughter, as well as Maeko, safely and without incident. However, this left the issue of who would care for the two children. Maeko was merely 11 years old at this time and lacked the ability to adequately care for herself. Given the circumstances of her existence, no one would take her in, however, and she was therefore pushed into an orphanage.

With a newfound lease on life, young Maeko immediately enrolled in the ninja academy and began her training to become a great and powerful kunoichi. Excelling in the academy, she quickly graduated and ascended to the rank of Genin. She wished to reach a point where people would stop looking at her with such sympathetic and fearful gazes. Longing for the admiration and respect that the village's strongest received, and hoping that she would have the strength to protect all of those who were important to her.
