Kozai got home from a brief shopping session (yes, he still had to eat, despite something in his memory telling him that he really shouldn't) to find that there, on his table, was a rather hefty manila folder. Wow, he'd rarely seen something of this size, even back when he was actively involved in war assignments. Well, no harm could come from taking something this big, right? Whatever it was, he was probably ready. There was a reason they tossed bones like these to old dogs like him. They just needed to keep him from becoming rusty so that if an emergency came up, he could take care of things like this. Also, there was the issue of maintaining his mental health. He had to keep active, or else something bad might happen. The higher ups probably suspected something of the sort, so they made sure that after his reactivation, he was kept with a steady supply of tough assignments to chew on. Well, at the very least, he should unpack his groceries and stock them away before reading this mission crap. A box of dried lentils, a fifty pound bag of rice, some dried peppers, and a can of ground coffee. Not much, all in all. [1/10]

| He walked over to the folder and sat down. His back didn't creak lately, which was weird. Oh well, nothing to it. Maybe his activity was causing him to take better care of himself, which couldn't be considered a bad thing. Peeling open the folder, his eyes made a quick scan of its contents. Nice, pictures in color. They hadn't had those back in his day, however long ago that had been. Well, this was certainly helpful. He could even see the nice big circles of blood depicted in those photos. Thus, it was that he immediately knew what kind of threat he'd be facing before he even started reading the text of the folder's contents.
Naturally, it was a (yet another) Jashinist threat. There had been all kinds of lobbying and hatred for this ancient religion ("cult" scoffed Kozai to himself), but Kozai couldn't possibly see how any of their arguments had merit. Murder in praise of some truly bloodthirsty conceptual god? Laughable. Such things could never be accepted in a well constructed society. It'd be like cooperating with cannibals or some edgy shit like that. How people like this could have real supporters was beyond him. Still, the contents of the folder still concerned him slightly. | It seemed like quite the little group had sprouted up in the absence of stricter control. The worst part, though, was that the leader of this group seemed to have reached the final stage of his preparations for his god. That is, of course, that he was a powerful physical combatant equipped with a potent curse technique. Kozai had seen it before, and almost fallen to it at one point. How had he survived again?
He couldn't remember. He knew that it was something important, something that he should probably do again on this mission as well, but whatever it was had been locked away with everything else by the him of decades before. Inconvenient. Well, then, maybe he could discover it again. This wasn't completely out of the question, knowing how lacking his skills were. He was proficient in ranged and close quarters combat, but a lot of his senses had dulled. Maybe fighting this jashinist fellow would allow him to start honing them again. The "Wind Demon" of the previous mission hadn't been too challenging; more of a joke, to be quite honest. His eyes scanned over the information one or two more times, then he stood, looking himself over to be sure he had everything with him. Yup, all seemed good.

| With that, he vanished from the room. The door was locked, but somehow, Kozai had removed himself from it. Naturally, this was the flying thunder god technique, which he used mostly just to get around now. It wasn't straining on his chakra system at all, and it was certainly faster than walking... hell, it was faster than most anything. He'd estimated once that beyond those with lightning release enhancements, ninja who'd mastered similar techniques to his were considered the fastest among shinobi. He wanted to test, at some point, whether or not the speed of the teleportation was faster than light, but didn't know quite how.
At any rate, there he was now in the middle of the village lands, outside the main metropolis. He wasn't the best at tracking, but even he could follow the trail of destruction throughout the area. With any luck, he'd be able to dispatch the small fry quickly and get to the leader without much trouble. The problem, of course, would be the leader himself. All that he required was one drop of blood, and it was probably over. Probably. He'd escaped it once, right? He was nearing them now. The fires of destruction still burned hot in the wreckage around him. [4/10]

| The scorched path led into a rather familiar forest. Unlike in other cases, Kozai knew why this forest was so familiar. He'd gone camping here as a child once. Why that memory hadn't been suppressed like the other ones was completely beyond him. He shook his head, and walked in, feeling the eyes of the fuckers around him as he progressed. Right, follow him. He'd lead himself into a trap. But they weren't closing in on him, of course. He was drawing them to him, like a field biologist drew in lizards into their bags of suffocation. He'd cut them open like biologists too. Or rather, like biologists did to lizards.
Right when all but the largest of the chakra signatures around him were within range, he'd stop. Of course, due to the speed of the unsealing technique he'd remembered recently, he'd probably concealed his secret actions well enough. Naturally, the people around him hadn't yet noticed the trail of seals that he'd left, scattered everywhere throughout the countryside. Even if they had the best tracker and the fastest runner, there was no way they'd be able to keep up with him. Cowardly, maybe, but it provided a great escape route. [5/10]

| The time has come. You have returned. Mete out justice from the sky, use H____ ______a. No, he couldn't possibly permit himself to. Rather, he could not at all. The memory of whatever jutsu that was being suggested to him was locked away, deep within his own subconcious. There was no way at all that he could possibly use it here. That didn't mean that he was out of options, of course. He had drawn all of his opponents to this one location for a reason. Naturally, he didn't quite plan to implement his attack yet. He didn't have enough information yet. It was with regret that his younger self realized that this was not the time to make the color course across the sky, a beauteous monument to the impending death that awaited his enemies. Oh well, the other solution was a good one as well. Kozai focused, his senses scanning the surroundings. Maybe, twenty or thirty of them, not counting the really big one that seemed to be stationary just ahead. Right, so he'd be able to take all of them out except the leader with a single jutsu. To be quite honest, this was deceptively easy so far. Were they all just stupid? [6/10] | |

| He weaved a single handseal, and felt the chakra signatures around him waver. Perfect. They had all been caught within his power now. He flexed his chakra, and one by one, they began to fall from the trees, their bodies hitting the ground with sickening thump and crunch sounds. The Temple of Nirvana genjutsu was used normally merely to incapacitate a mass group of targets, but because his specific victims had foolishly positioned themselves in trees, high above the ground where death awaited them. In the end, it had been a simple matter of showing them the illusionary feathers of the genjutsu. "Well, you can come out now." Kozai stretched and yawned a bit, waiting for the man to arrive. One... two... three. The chakra signature came rocketing toward him, almost faster than he could react to. However, by simply teleporting to a seal off to the side, he was able to avoid it with ease. Damn, what? How could someone be this fast with only physical ability? He couldn't even get a good look at the guy before he came after him again. Well, this might actually be a bit difficult. His right hand flashed, and a storm of marked kunai came forth. [7/10] | |

| Well, in that case, the guy must have somewhat decent sensory, which bothered him a little. With another little spatial hop, he ended up near a lake. As predicted, the man changed directions, heading towards him again. Kozai stepped to the right, and the water distorted and formed a spiral, coming head on to attack the man. Gotcha, Kozai thought, as the water spouted on. However, the man seemed to change directions rapidly, heading off at a perpendicular angle. What? How was that kind of maneuverability possible? Kozai frowned. He'd have to get a closer look if he wanted to figure out how to beat this guy. He spat a bolt of lightning in the man's path and took off at a fast pace, a glow appearing around his hand. He'd have to act quickly, or he'd miss his window and be beaten soundly. If that guy got any amount of blood plasma, it was over. Again, the guy seemed to use some kind of mid air maneuverability technique... No. He was stepping off of something. Pieces of debris? This guy was far beyond what he had expected in the first place. Nobody who wasn't a god in taijutsu would be able to do that. [8/10] | |

| Well, whatever physical enhancement he was using, Kozai would crush it. He had a fairly good idea of what he'd do next, so he backed up another few steps, spitting out another bolt of lightning as he did so. The man seemed to bounce a bit, and that's when Kozai figured out what he was doing. He wasn't flying around or jumping off of dust. He was bouncing off of the air itself, moving his foot in such a way that it compressed the air under him enough for a momentary burst of the surface walking technique to recognize it as a solid object.
He seemed to remember fighting opponents like this before. Enemies of such great physical prowess that they pushed Kozai to the limits of his computation. But this guy was far from being any of those great legends. And of course, mere weaklings couldn't stop Kozai from fulfilling his mission. He backed into the water, watching its surface carefully. In order to attack him, this guy would have to approach him across the surface of the water now. It was a trick that work really well against fast people. Rather than watching the guy speeding around, he'd watch the water instead. [9/10]

| After a few seconds, he caught sight of the v shaped trail heading toward him, and grinned inwardly. This guy might have been a powerful combatant, far stronger than the Wind Demon fellow he'd face last time, but in the end, they were both the same. Stupid, unable to realize that their opponent was someone far more wily and experienced than they were. Had the guy just retreated at this top speed instead of running directly at Kozai, he might have actually succeeded in keeping his life. But here, it was now over. Kozai released the current of electricity and the man fell into the water, his body paralyzed.
Now, all that had to be done was to incapacitate the guy. He took away his weapon and began dismantling the Jashinist's body, keeping the head for interrogation and burying each other section of flesh. Eventually, the arms and bits would run out of nutrient matter and would perish. The head was required by the village, so he'd take it back with him after removing the teeth. Didn't need to give the guy any method with which to draw blood, even though he had no limbs so he couldn't perform the ritual... practically, that is. That being done, Kozai teleported back to the village. [10/10]
