Power Surpassing [flashback]

With naught a sound, Kozai appeared on the plains near the edge of the village's northern territories. The area was flat for miles around, covered with the normal basal scrub and the odd tree, rarely. What a boring place. He supposed that there could be all kinds of energy-rich materials underground, but if there were, the village hadn’t begun to do any prospecting as of yet. Well, it wouldn't matter, anyways. According to the orders he'd been given this morning, some kind of big ol' beastie would pass by here soon. His official goal was to drive it away from their territory (alone? such bullcrap); he had other plans, naturally.

The village was just a convenient place for him to live. As long as it served his purposes, he'd give it a bit of his time. Besides, he was positively itching for a fight. He'd created quite a few little tricks, he thought, shifting the two marked kunai he held in his right hand. All he had to do was wait for the beast to arrive. He'd heard it was both fast and powerful, so he was hoping that he'd be able to match it with his jutsu. It occurred to him that if it was too strong, he'd have to resort to attrition tactics, which he was never good at... well, he didn't want to end the fight too soon, either. Then it was no fun.

Most of all, he was excited to test out the new rune jutsu he'd stolen from that coven in the mountains. Oh, how gullible they'd been. So willing to teach him their "ancient healing glyphs". He'd studied diligently... then re-purposed them into weapons, of course. Any monkey could heal, but only he had been able to use this kind of fuuinjutsu as an offensive tool.

The sun was reaching its position in the western part of the sky, signifying the late afternoon. All he had to do now... was wait.

Hotei walked through the valley at a leisurely pace. He was moving to his den which was located high in the mountains in the Land of Darkness. The massive feline had taken mild notice of the little ants moving about beneath him, but he ignored them for the most part. Humans were little more than annoyances at this rate, he couldn't care less about them. He was moving up a bank, between two mountains when he finally saw his home. A large cave blasted in the side of the mountain by his own bijuudama. Of course, sometimes humans would come to try to attack him, but they made for good snacks more than anything. He would walk across a slight prairie towards his den. He noticed a single ant was watching him, but he didn't care much for it. His eight colossal tails almost blotting out the sun as they swayed behind him. It was almost nighttime, so he would rest a bit and come back out later, he was a nocturnal creature after all.

The first thing Kozai noticed was the terrifying presence on the horizon. After a few seconds, it became easier to discern its enormous form about fifty meters away from him, but the awe of it never left his mind.
Being post-human, of course, Kozai could simply overlook these things. The wonder of it never once affected his decision making as he raised his hand, pointing his palm outwards at the beast as it made its way toward whatever destination it had in mind. The grass around Kozai began to shiver and bend away from him as his aura bulged outward slightly, his energy mixing and churning inside his chakra network, as a small sigil of a sword-like design manifest on his hand.

The large beam of chakra lanced out, cutting across the evening landscape, heading for the beast’s head. He was willing to bet that a powerful monster like this would have some kind of defense against a technique that he considered to be… well, subpar. If it didn’t, he’d be disappointed as hell.

As he prepared the beam, though, he would have already dropped one of his kunai point-first into the ground on his right; the kunai, of course, being dropped from the hand that was NOT firing the beam, leaving only one kunai remaining still being held in his right hand.

Hotei was caught off guard by the sudden flash of light that struck him from the little insect. Growling, he could feel it messing with his senses. He would squash this insect. It had bothered him enough. He would rush to the nuisance, proceeding to throw down a paw attempting to simply crush it. It was annoying enough that the thing had attacked him for no reason, but now he probably wouldn't have time to nap before he went back out. This annoyed the giant cat to no end. One of his favorite ways to pass the time, as time means nothing to a bijuu, was to nap. He blamed it on nature turning him into a feline, who are notorious nappers. But, either way, his tails were now flailing about wildly, destroying everything they swung into, the mountainsides around them, the grass, the trees, basically anything behind the massive cat looked like a war zone.
