One of the few shinobi clans that are native to the countless small islands that form the expanded archipelago that is known today as Mizu no Kuni. The Hoshigaki clan’s inhabitance of the region easily predates the shinobi village of Kirigakure within the Mizu no Kuni's borders, with which the clan has been allied with almost since its founding. Before joining the ranks of the shinobi world, the Hoshigaki lived as a tribal clan, using their superior mobility and hunting capabilities to survive as apex predators of the surrounding waters. When Kirigakure was founded, members of the tribe that would come to be known as the Hoshigaki clan were actively recruited by representatives of the village who saw their intimate knowledge of the environment, predatory disposition, and unique abilities to be ideal for the role of a shinobi. Although many were hesitant to ally themselves with the newly created entity of the Village Hidden in the Mist.

Members of the Hoshigaki Clan are perhaps most known for their shark-like appearance. The most noticeable feature would be that their skin tone that ranges from a soft blue color to a dark grey. Most commonly found at their neckline would be a set of gills, however, it is known that they could show in other places. Like most sharks, they also come equipped with a large set of razor sharp teeth and their skin is more of a cartilage/scale material rather than normal skin.

Members of the Hoshigaki clan are widely known for their shark-like anatomy, though no-one quite understands where this quality came from, it stands out immediately among most members who have dominant genes in this area. After spending many years merging themselves into the society of the Bloody Mist they were a key fit. The Mizukage after learning of their amazing hunting capabilities had begun to hand select certain members and subjecting them to the ways of the bloody mist. They were trained at an early age to become a specialized squad of hunter-nin tasked to hunt other ninja and show no remorse. This led to a large rift between the clan and society after exposing the populace to the brutality and nature of its members.

Water Affinity: Due to the nature of their genes all Hoshigaki members receive a +20 to speed(only while in water) and must take Suiton as their primary element. Being so related to water they take an additional rank of damage from any Raiton based jutsu.

Shark Anatomy: All Hoshigaki member's gills are fully functioning allowing them to breathe while submerged in water. They receive a +10 to strength and a +20 to durability from their primal composition of cartilage and scales which allow them to not only withstand more damage but dish a bit more out.

Bukijutsu Training: From birth all Hoshigaki members have a sword put in their hands and learn that it is their only friend. The results from all the hunter-nin training give a +1 rank skill boost to Bukijutsu. However being such a physical force of nature all Genjutsu is capped at expert and no genjutsu above C-rank can be learned. This +1 rank skill bonus surpasses the limits of their rank.
