Checking Out the Land of Earth (Flashback)

He’d received word from the village council. It was the first mission he’d do for Kumogakure for a long time, and Roku smiled at the warm feeling he got for doing something for his home village. It was a fantastic thing. He felt, in that brief moment, as if his world was no longer upside down and everything was normal once more. It had been a difficult time for him, but he’d become something special – a force, a god amongst men, in the time he had been away from his home. It had been rough, but he became a better person for it… but now, if only he could convince himself to go back. He was loyal to Kumogakure, and he would always be, but those mountains were a prison, and his prison was the only home he’d ever known… that that was a pile of ashes now. He winced. The memory of those events always caused him near physical pain. You’re an adult now Roku… act like it!

Roku was perhaps a half mile from the border to the Land of Earth now and he'd passed several patrols and sentries. Some of them wore an odd symbol on their clothing that Roku did not recognize, and some wore the symbol of Iwagakure. Huh... so the rumors are true. A lot of Iwagakure did conscript. That was unfortunate. Roku wanted to save the survivors of the battle of Iwagakure but many of them sympathized with the Black Sun, helped them, and even joined them. Roku was at a moral impasse about what to do in that situation. Surely we cannot try all of them for war crimes? And would they even be found guilty? Perhaps they've been coerced or something... you could never know. It was not long before Roku heard footsteps - loud ones. Fast ones. Rushed ones. They were chasing someone, and Roku knew who it was - him. He remained stationary for the moment, crouched between two massive rocks in the pillared canyon and wondered to himself - fight or flight?

It did not take long for the man to decide - obviously, he would fight. Five sets of footsteps. Easy. Roku activated Chakra Blitz, focusing first on strength. He leaped into the air, and many meters above the ground, he caught sight of his pursuers. Had he noticed them five seconds later, they would have gotten the drop on him. Roku threw one of his specialized Kunai, and as the object moved at 200 speed, Roku's victim did not even see it before the weapon impaled him in the chest. Adrenaline pumping, Roku teleported. Now on top of the man's lifeless corpse, Roku drew Naegling and stabbed another man directly in the face - he was dead before he hit the ground. The moment Roku's strike landed, however, Roku noticed two of the men were airborne, and the other was moving toward him at rather impressive speed for the average foot soldier. Roku threw a kunai to chase one of the men in the air, but because he was off-balance, he missed by a hair's breadth. Dammit Roku, you should have hit him there. Time froze for a moment as the blade of the charging warrior landed on Roku's neck.

Barely in time, Roku switched Chakra Blitz to durability and the sword landed on Roku's neck, bouncing off like he was made of steel. When fighting like this, Roku's flesh was nearly impenetrable. Already, a rain of kunai came down from above. It wasn't that the men above were flying... it was that Roku was moving so fast that he had managed to complete all these actions while the men were still airborne. Switching to strength, Roku pushed the man who had just struck at him with both hands, caving his chest in and leaving him to writhe in pain on the ground as Roku teleported to the kunai that had missed its target previously. He was in a worse position than he would like, but it was fine. Roku threw Naegling at the closest man, impaling him in the back, and his kunai in an arched and controlled trajectory with boosted speed at the other man, landing it on the back of the man's neck. Both were dead by the time Roku hit the ground once more.

Now it was only time to clean up his mess from playtime. How many deaths at my hand does that make? 104. In only six months... Roku doubled over and vomited. Slowly, Roku went about gathering his tools from the bodies of his victims. He checked them out, all bearing Black Sun insignias. It was not long, however, before Roku detected another force - a moving army! Just below the cliff Roku stood on was a massive army of Black Sun recruits. Roku shuddered. They were gaining mass and quickly. Roku turned and ran, fleeing the scene entirely. His mission was complete and he needed to compile a report and send it into Kumogakure's council.
