Clan Name: 狐怪 | Koyasu
Clan Symbol: N/A
Clan History: 狐怪 The Fox Yokai Kitsune Mononoke, Obake, Bakemono, Mamono, Ayakashi.
These beasts go by many names, but to the speaker of the common tongue, they are simply known as “foxes”. Those who have given up their humanity to become such are known as the Koyasu, and thus belong to a great clan that emphasizes survival. However, they are not without explanation nor intention. The beasts do not prowl around meaninglessly, but are on the hunt for those who would become one of them, and further and strengthen the clan. After all, the world only sees to the survival of the fittest. What good is a clan if it is not fit to survive?
The Hoshi no Tama, the Star Ball, a beautiful orb of light kept close by the Kitsune of old and of the present, finds itself in unlikely hands. The ancient Fox Sage, the “Daughter of Kurama”, found herself with one in her possession, but through the most underhanded of means. What else could one really expect from one who chose to contract and identify with the foxes of the world? These glowing orbs are the fox’s source of power, graced with kitsunebi- foxfire-, and act as a physical representation of their very souls. Oftentimes, they take more material forms, such as jewels, pearls, trinkets, and even unique weapons.
In trying to become closer to those who trusted her, the sage betrayed them all after stealing one of these glittering orbs of light for its power. Her goal was to use it to become like them, at the cost of the life of one of their own. Angry at her treachery, the greatest of the foxes cursed the sage with what she wanted, in a way she would never expect. She would never age beyond just before her middle years, and her fate would be repeated, a reincarnation in each generation, while she sought to further her agenda. The stolen Hoshi No Tama would remain in the possession of her incarnations, and it slowly would deplete her life before delivering a painful end. Afterwards, it would fade away for a short time, only to appear again in the life of a new ‘Daughter of Kurama’, a human child called to the life of a Kitsune.
The goal of the sage was simple-- survival. The sage’s first mission was to bring more foxes into the world, ones who could not help but submit to the greatest of the Kitsune, and fight by their side. Willing humans would find themselves ritually transformed, while the current members of the clan would often seek to bear many young of their own to strengthen the number of the clan.
How ironic that the leader of the clan never should see old age, or their children grow up. The idea of survival is one only the blessed Koyasu are able to see, though the cursed head of the clan is to never survive, but to die and be born again. The ‘Daughter of Kurama’, the head of the Koyasu, will always reincarnate alongside their stolen Star Ball. Should the clan ever die out, they are fated to bring it to life once again, to guarantee its survival. Anything less is out of the question. The Kitsune are meant to survive, and survival is what lies at the end of their quest.
A wild fox does not go a lifetime without being tracked and hunted. Be it for their skins, their power, or out of mere sport or revenge, the Koyasu are familiar with being the hunter, and being the hunted. Their history is not without conflict, as they war with various villages, clans, and other groups.
After witnessing spectacular clashes with their enemies, the Koyasu clan found itself short of members, and with the head of their clan waning away from her curse, the Kitsune began to lose hope. Some left the clan, and tried to hold onto what scraps were left of their humanity. Others watched in silence as the clan dwindled down, and finally faded away with the death of the cursed one.
A few years passed, and the last of the Koyasu finally succumbed to defeat in battle. Not all was lost, however, as the stolen Hoshi No Tama would appear in the world again as the representation of the soul of a newborn child destined to be a Kitsune. Instinct drove the kid to become aware of its destiny, and with haste, they sought to breathe life into their clan once more. Once again, the Koyasu would rise up and strengthen their numbers, securing a place in the world. To avoid dying out again, they would mingle with the other human clans of the world, and raise young ones to be noble Kitsune shinobi. Their numbers would grow in various villages everywhere, with loyalty to foxes coming before loyalty to mankind, for most.
Tragedy struck once more, however, as the humans of the world began to recognize the power of the Kitsune and their Hoshi No Tama. Taking the idea into consideration that the beasts were far less than human, the Hunts began again, this time for power. The manifested souls of the Kitsune were rich with their power, which could be utilized by the greedy and ambitious humans for all sorts of purposes, with few of them being good.
A new Daughter of Kurama had risen, and allowed the remainder of the clan to be hunted down while she waited in hiding. Once the Koyasu clan was considered extinct, the head of the clan made her move to rebuild it once more. Only this time, the manifesting of the fox’s Hoshi No Tama would remain a secret, entrusted to only the most cunning, clever, and sneaky of the Kitsune. The process was repeated-- the clan would scatter among the various clans and villages, but remain true to their heritage. The most loyal foxes would be taught how to manifest their Hoshi No Tama, and how to properly utilize and protect it. Once more, the Koyasu would survive, and continue surviving to the present day, their numbers still growing and their clan strong.
Clan Size: At least 4 PCs. Less than 100 NPCs.
Clan Appearance: No defining traits aside from usually possessing fox ears and a tail in their true form, some members appear as complete foxes while others have no traits whatsoever due to the clan's jutsu to alter their appearance.
Clan Location: Scattered throughout the villages and clans.
Clan's Reputation: The Koyasu clan is infamous and for all the wrong reasons. Considered by most as the demonic foxes that haunt your streets at night, the clan is known as the clan of trickery. They shapeshift and move around as mostly rumours ever since the clan was considered killed off after they were killed for their famed "Hoshi no Tama", which became an item of legendary value within the world and was commonly sought by more underhand means. This led the clan to be regarded as extinct until they once again popped back up. Ever since then, the Koyasu's reputation only became more different with rumours of the clan hiding amongst the world and they exist as a sort of myth nowadays.
Clan Joining: Any willing individual may join the Koyasu Clan. As the clan constantly seeks to grow in number and survive, they will take in anyone willing, regardless of their current clan, village, background, or anything else. A Kitsune will utilize a jutsu that manifests the person’s soul. From there, the Koyasu clan member will transform the soul from that of a human, to that of a fox. The individual will have given up all trace of their humanity in favor of instinct and a hunger for survival. They will then have access to the clan’s Hiden jutsu, as well as a befitting Kitsune form of their own.
Clan Ability/KKG Description: The Koyasu do not have a bloodline, and instead have access to the clan’s secret jutsu and traits.
Clan bonuses: Shinobi Kitsune receive a skill bonus to an area of Ninjutsu and Genjutsu of their choice. Samurai Kitsune receive a skill bonus to Spirit. This is not received by those that are turned who possess clan benefits from another clan. (ie: A Senju with their skill bonus' would not see any of the Koyasu ones.)
Clan Jutsu:
Name: Shape Change Technique Rank: C Type: Ninjutsu Element: N/A Range: Self Description: The Koyasu Clan have the unique ability to shapeshift, this works very much in principle to the Transformation Technique with the exception of the transformation actually being applied to their bodies. This technique allows the Koyasu to take the appearance of a humanoid or animal, this isn't free-form, meaning that the person needs a basic template to go off which is why people and animals work best. The transformation itself requires no upkeep since the effect is permanent until a new form is applied or they remove it. Requirements: Must have undergone Koyasu Ritual.
Name: Size Change Technique Rank: B - S Type: Ninjutsu Element: N/A Range: Self Description: Koyasu can also scale their size with a more advanced version of the Shape-Change technique..... Requirements: Must have undergone Koyasu Ritual.
Name: Fox-Fire Technique Rank: E Type: Ninjutsu Element: N/A Range: Long-range Description: They are known for their mystic flames the fire that the Kitsune can use is unique through this hiden jutsu. In the most common forms of this technique a user can alter the elemental affects of their fire release, so long as the user has the element. So for example, a Kitsune can use Fox-Fire with Earth Release, which to a normal person they would assume it was fire and use water release, however the fire would instead act like Earth Release jutsu which is strong against water. Members can create their own unique fox-fire however the most common application is through this trickery on their fire. Under normal circumstances the fire appears either blue or normally. The Fox-Fires strength is also dependent on the amount of chakra used for them the jutsus rank itself does not change, only the strength depending on how much chakra the user put into it.
Using the flames with x chakra = x strength. 60 Chakra = 80 Strength 50 Chakra = 70 Strength 30 Chakra = 50 Strength 10 Chakra = 40 Strength 05 Chakra = 30 Strength Requirements: Must have undergone Koyasu Ritual.
Name: Tail Manifestation Rank: B Type: Ninjutsu Element: N/A Range: Far-range Description: A Koyasu has tails, not always or limited to one. Depending on their number of tails at the time they can manifest any amount up until their total. Meaning that one with six cannot manifest seven, the maximum number of real tails a Koyasu can manifest is nine without taking into account genjutsu illusions. These tails are incredibly useful with the same strength and speed that the user has. The tails work as limbs which can be hard to get used to at first, considering they can also extend up to 200 metres the tails are versatile and only become harder to deal with and control the more a user has. A user can also alter the shape slightly to form hand-seals with them due to having control over their shape. They have an upkeep of 20 chakra per post.
Using the tails with x chakra = x durability (this durability buff only applies for the tails which have this added to the user's durability).
10 Chakra = +30 Durability 50 Chakra = +50 Durability 80 Chakra = +90 Durability Requirements: Must have undergone Koyasu Ritual.
Name: Assimilation Rank: E Type: Medical Ninjutsu Element: N/A Range: Self Description: The Koyasu have not been unknown to ingest human flesh, some of the clan do this. This is because they are able to have a chance at obtaining a person's KKG via this means, now this operates on the same principle and system of the DNA transplanting for a medical-nin only does not require a transplant. A Koyasu merely needs to ingest the flesh of that KKG after which point you must use the dice roll, if you hit a 7 or lower then it fails and the Koyasu must do 10 posts of recovery before you may try again. This recovery is in the form of stomach and gastrointestinal pains for the duration. Also this doesn't change or scale with your medical skill, there is no way to make this chance higher or lower. Requirements: Must have undergone Koyasu Ritual.
Name: Fox Curse Technique Rank: D Type: Fuinjutsu Element: N/A Range: Short-range Description: With skill in Fuinjutsu the Koyasu are able to apply curses and things of that nature, they do this through seals and juinjutsu. The most basic one is by touching an opponent they can apply a curse which increases the perception of weight to the target, it results in a slow by -20 speed, the curse itself is not a single mark but spread over the body, making it require an expert in Fuinjutsu to remove. Requirements: Must have undergone Koyasu Ritual.
