| The Chuunin exams were a challenging experience for Jin. The foe he had to engage with, the sand user, Jin would probably never forget him. The chakra that his foe emitted and the way that sand moved. It was faster than him, stronger than him; it was formidable. If it hadn’t been for the crystal user, Jin would have easily lost to that shinobi. And if it weren’t for the interruption, the team would have lost. Well, those events were in the past.
Now Jin was on a different adventure and this time, he was not alone. The crystal element user and fellow shinobi of Konoha: Yin Hyuuga had tagged along with him. The two were on a mission to sell quite a few wares to Sunagakure and in doing so, collect useful information and relay it to the Hokage. It was a spy work, sort of dishonest but that came with the life Jin had chosen for him. Jin was a member of the Ota family and they were merchants. Actually, they were merchants who had made a legacy of finding unique things in other villages and bringing them to Konoha to sell. And since Jin had taken a break after his academy graduation and participated in the business, he was not new to the whole thing.
Compared to his other endeavors, this one was slightly different. Instead of a wagon carrying the wares, Jin had emptied his large scrolls in his weapon storage in Konoha and had sealed the medicinal herbs they were going to sell to Sunagakure in those scrolls. Considering he had two large scrolls, he was able to seal quite an amount within them using fuinjutsu. So, it would be easier for the two shinobi to move on about and protect themselves in the long journey.
Well prepped and ready, Jin would await the arrival of Yin at the Konoha gates. For the occasion, he had his food and water packed and other necessary resources in a bag. While, the rest of him was his standard gear: the long overcoat, the white mask that covered all of his face and the scrolls tied to the back of his waist. After Yin would arrive Jin would greet her formally, as he always did:
”Greetings Yin-chan, looking forward to the journey”, he would say and make some small talk as she was the talkative one. He would respond in his usual manner and then the two would depart for the village hidden by the sand.

| The Chuunin exams had been something else, fun, but also not. For one, the teammate who had been assigned to help them was none other than a terrorist. He had seemed so nice and cute at first, but in the end, betrayed everyone. Definitely not worthy of Chuunin rank, if she did say so herself. The place had been evacuated, and once more Yin was in the boring confines of the Invisible Plant Appendage village.
But not for long.
They had a chance to redeem themselves, and hop into the action once more. Though there would hopefully be little to no fighting, this was a chance to get out and explore! She would meet her acquaintance by the gates and greet him with that ever so familiar smile. “Aye, ditto!” Yin replied cheerfully, setting off for the village of the Hidden Sand, which would soon require a nickname from the young shinobi.
The two would come to the country of Wind after travel and reach the well-civilized desert village. The curious girl scanned the village in awe, amazed at the stark terrain difference. The land was much unlike the country of Fire and did not have the lush green forests that Konoha knew. Instead, it was sandy, and Yin would begin to understand why the Genin they fought in the exams had loved sand. He had likely grown up around it his entire life.
“Ready to sell some weed~?” Yin asked Jin in a chipper manner upon arrival, still energetic despite the long journey.

| The journey was indeed a long one but it hadn’t been boring, thanks to the company Jin had. Yin had this cheerful attitude about her that brightened the world around her. Jin was the formal, mysterious and a touch of calm sort of dude. As a team, they probably filled up the gaps in one’s personalities. In terms of skill, Yin manned the skill section and the capable section of the team. Jin had a ton of ground to cover. However, luckily for him, the mission they were on was right up his alley.
The best thing to do after a long journey is to rest, that would be the conventional approach. However, Jin’s friend was probably far too energetic and curious to rest. As was expressed in her slightly mischievous comment. Though the medicines they carried may have some intoxicating agents for pain reduction but it wasn’t weed. And she was well aware of it.
Jin smiled his invisible smile beneath his mask, ”I suppose we can gauge out the market. We won’t be able to sell most of our wares but we can initiate the process”, he would say retrieving one of the large scrolls tied on his waist. ”I’ve done this sort of work with my family before but I haven’t had the opportunity to visit Sunagakure. So your guess is as good as mine, where do you want to setup shop?”, Jin would ask for the opinion of his teammate.
His biggest takeaway from the exam was that teamwork was key. He had survived through the exam because of it. So he knew that in order to strive for a better future, he would have to rely on teamwork as well.
After Yin would reply to Jin’s inquiry with some sort of directions, Jin would follow up and setup the shop. He would do so simply by using the unsealing fuinjutsu and retrieve quite a bit, but not all, of the medicines from one of the large scrolls. This was day one, so it would be wrong to assume that they could sell out in a single day. Unless of course, lady luck was feeling exceptionally generous this day.

| The man was most mysterious, though it no longer unsettled the young girl. In a way, it did reflect her personality almost perfectly. He was calm and patient with her, which was far more than what most people could boast. Her perkiness often would rub others the wrong way, yet Jin seemed thoroughly unfazed by it.
While resting was an idea, could they not do so after setting up shop? By that point, they were just standing or sitting in place, and acting as merchants do. Scanning the more public part of the village, Yin sought for an answer to Jin’s question. “Right over there seems good. It’s in the shade, and seems like a nice, visible place,” Yin answered, pointing to a place in front of a tiny grove of a few palm trees.
“So, you’ve done this kind of thing before?” she ventured to ask as they would move to set up shop in the place she had chosen. Yin had quietly noticed that Jin did not bear the family name of any known shinobi clan. She had originally assumed that the Ota family simply was some lesser known ninja clan, though upon hearing his words, it made her question. “Also, are you really going to wear that mask the whole time? Isn’t it hot in there?”
The latter question was asked with some intent behind it. The mask seemed shady, and had given her a poor impression upon first meeting Jin. In the village of strangers, would it keep people from daring to buy the medicinal herbs from the two Konoha shinobi?

| Jin had grown accustomed to his mask so much that he forgot that he ever had it on. He had been wearing it ever since he had chosen the path of the shinobi. It felt the same as one’s face felt, just the skin. Though, it wasn’t taboo for him to take it off but the familiarity to it didn’t let him.
Before the mask, Yin pointed at the direction she wanted the shop to be and Jin complied. And they began their business in Sunagakure. Interestingly, Yin asked Jin about whether he had done this sort of thing before. Jin had introduced himself before and did mention that he was from the Ota family. He just assumed that Yin knew about the Ota family. That was the conventional assumption. In terms of their business, they were pretty well known in Konoha. However, if someone wasn’t interested in unique things from other villages; they probably didn’t know anything about them.
So it was time for a bit of a history about the Ota family:
”Yes, I’ve done this sort of thing with my family. I was pulled away from being a shinobi after I graduated the academy and spend a couple of years in the family business. That’s the reason why I’m of this age and still a genin”, he would explain the bit about himself as well. She would probably be slightly intrigued about that bit too.
Then, Yin would mention Jin’s mask and he would remove it. He would do so because it wouldn’t be a good impression on the customers and he could sense that in Yin’s words. Maybe she was genuinely concerned about him being too hot but that wouldn’t be a problem, since he was used to the whole thing.
After doing that, Jin would continue explaining the bit about the Ota family:
”The Otas make a living finding unique things from distant villages, bringing them to Konoha and selling them. I don’t mean to brag but we do have a decent establishment in Konoha”, he would say with a gentle smile. He really didn’t mean to brag but it was true; financially, they weren’t doing too bad.
People walking by had begun to take notice of their little shop and the Konoha headbands on the two shinobi. Jin didn’t wear the headband on his head, he wore it on his left bicep.
Considering the fact that Yin had indulged in his origin story, it would only be appropriate if Jin did the same: common courtesy if you will. Jin recalled the first Hyuuga he had ever met, the princess of the Hyuuga: Hyuuga Rei. He had also trained his taijutsu with her and owed quite a bit of his abilities to her. Maybe bringing her up wasn’t such a bad idea?
”So you use the crystal element quite nicely, as everyone witnessed in the exams but I don’t recall seeing you using the byakugan. I remember seeing it before.. I trained with the Hyuuga Princess: Rei. I’m sure you know of her”, said Jin indulging in the small talk.
While he continued the small talk, one thing revolved in his mind constantly: ”We still need to map out the place. That’s the real part of our visit here. Gather information for the hokage. If Yin does it, it should be good. Her byakugan can prove invaluable to us for it. I have to make sure no one’s paying attention to us while he ask her to do so”, that was the reason his eyes were moving around; looking for people who were too ‘interested’ in the Konoha shinobis.
